While Ross and Rachel were the TV couple which defined the 90s and early noughties, in the long-awaited Friends Reunion David Schwimmer and Jennifer Aniston confirmed they really did have romantic feelings for each other behind the scenes.

The two hour special has finally landed on NOW in the UK and HBO Max in the States, with a string of bombshells including the unfathomable revelation that Jen and David were very almost a thing in real life.

Sadly, both actors ended up in different relationships and their stars never quite aligned.

But this is BRAND NEW INFORMATION.

As James Corden points out in the special, the cast was made up of six very attractive stars in their late twenties and naturally sparks were flying.

But how on earth has it taken 27 years since Friends launched and Ross fell in love with Rachel to learn there was a blossoming romance between Jennifer and David off-camera?

‘The first season I had a major crush on Jen and at some point we were both crushing on each other,’ explained David. ‘But it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary. We always respected that.’

Jennifer jumped in and confirmed: ‘I remember saying to David, “it’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually is going to be on national television.” Sure enough first time we kissed was in that coffee shop.

‘But we just channelled all our love and adoration for each other into Ross and Rachel.’

Wtaf.

When the show started in 1994, Jen was dating Tate Donovan who starred as Rachel’s brief fling Joshua. She went on to marry Brad Pitt while David dated the likes of singer Natalie Imbruglia in the late 90s and then actress Mili Avital after meeting on the set of romantic comedy Kissing A Fool.

But just think what could have been…

The Friends Reunion marks the first time the entire cast – made up of Jennifer, David, Matthew Perry, Lisa Kudrow, Courteney Cox and Matt LeBlanc – have been seen on screen together since the final episode aired in 2004.

Expect to see Joey reunited with his hand twin and a very special rendition of Smelly Cat from actual Lady Gaga.

The Friends Reunion is available to stream on NOW and will air on Sky One at 8pm tonight.
