A new emoji has been unveiled for Loki ahead of the Marvel series launch on Disney Plus… with some fans suspecting it could be hinting at a major plot twist.

In the lead-up to the release date for Loki, which will see Tom Hiddleston reprise the role of the MCU’s God of Mischief, fans noticed that a new emoji had launched on Twitter alongside the #Loki hashtag.

It’s typical for characters of popular films and TV shows to get their own emojis on Twitter, such as was the case for WandaVision and The Falcon and The Winter Soldier.

However, several eagle-eyed Marvel fans realised that the emoji for Loki doesn’t depict the Asgardian in his TVA outfit, which he has been shown wearing in several teasers, trailers and on the poster.

Instead, the Loki in the emoji bears a resemblance to Loki from Thor: Ragnarok, the third Thor film released in 2017.

This has led some to question if this means the events of Ragnarok could feed into Loki, especially considering the series will see the character time travel after being apprehended by the TVA (Time Variance Authority).

For anyone thinking the gold horns being worn on Loki’s head in the emoji could just be the ones he’s worn in previous Marvel films, there is a slight difference that makes it clear they’re the ones from Ragnarok.

Not only are the gold horns not covering his head as a helmet – so allowing his hair to flow freely – but there are also two green strips at the front… exactly as they looked in Ragnarok.

‘THE EMOJI FOR THE LOKI SERIES IS RAGNAROK LOKI? OMG RAGNAROK LOKI COMEBACK?’ one person tweeted excitedly.

‘The world has gifted me #Loki Twitter emoji on my bday. Amazing. But why is it Ragnarok Loki?? I hope they’ll update it to President Loki and any other Lokis throughout the series,’ another fan wrote.

A few people questioned if the Ragnarok Loki emoji had been created due to a Thor: Ragnarok watch party taking place online, wondering whether it’ll subsequently be changed to a different version of the character.

‘Likely just a placeholder until the show actually releases. I severely doubt they’d be bringing back Ragnarok Loki,’ one person theorised.

Considering Loki has been teased as one of the most outlandish Marvel releases yet, it wouldn’t surprise us – nor would it disappoint us – if it included a reference to Thor: Ragnarok.

A Reddit user recently shared a heartbreaking theory about Loki and how it could connect to a tragic Avengers: Infinity War scene.

They explained that the Loki who Thor watches Thanos (Josh Brolin) kill could be the Loki that we’re going to watch in the Disney Plus show, who disrupted the timeline when he escaped the Avengers clutches in 2012.

We can already envisage Twitter becoming inundated with a constant stream of theories when Loki begins. And to that we say – bring it on.

Loki premieres on Disney Plus on Wednesday June 9.
