Nintendo Switch Pro will replace current model and be more expensive claim insiders
Fresh rumours about the Switch Pro suggest Nintendo may be just days away from a reveal, and the announcement of an autumn launch.
The idea of the Switch Pro, a fan nickname for a more powerful version of the current Nintendo Switch, has been floating around for years but the last few months has seen a stream of very insistent rumours, claiming it’s real and that it’ll be out this year.
The assumption is that it will be announced at E3 next month but according to the latest rumours the reveal will actually happen a few days before.
Nintendo hasn’t said when their E3 livestream will be, but traditionally it’d be on June 14 – and if not it’s probably only a few days either side.
A new report by Bloomberg claims that the new console model will be announced ‘ahead’ of E3, which implies a reveal possibly as soon as next week.
According to Bloomberg’s sources manufacturing of the new model will begin in July and it’ll go on sale in September or October of this year.
They suggest that the new console will cost more than the £280 of the current model, although how much more is not mentioned. The implication is that the original model will be slowly phased out and the Switch Pro sold alongside the cheaper Switch Lite.
Bloomberg is sticking to its previous prediction that the Switch Pro will have a 7-inch (compared to the current 6.2 inch) OLED screen and a faster Nvidia graphics chip, capable of outputting at 4K when docked to a TV.
Despite worldwide semiconductor shortages suppliers are apparently confident of fulfilling Nintendo’s orders, in part because the components being used are less in demand.
The report also implies that several new games will be announced alongside the new console, although there’s still no real clue as to what they might be. It is a long time since we’ve heard anything on the Breath Of The Wild sequel though…
