Britney Spears paid a gushing tribute to Princess Diana amid renewed controversy over the late royal’s 1995 Panorama interview report.

In a timely Instagram post shared on Thursday evening, the 39 year old labelled Diana a ‘sheer genius’ who was ‘oblivious of her own power’.

Britney uploaded an image of Diana on her wedding day in 1981 and another of the crowds gathering to celebrate her nuptials to Prince Charles.

The Stronger hitmaker gushed in her caption: ‘She never wanted to be the queen … she wanted to be the heart of the people!!!!!!!!

‘She was more than class … she was sheer genius down to the way she spoke to the way she mothered her children.

Britney added: ‘The essence of being completely oblivious to her own power !!!! 750 MILLION people watched her get married on TV!!!! She will always be remembered as one of the most remarkable women to date!!!!!’

Britney’s tribute comes after an inquiry earlier this month concluded that former BBC journalist Martin Bashir used ‘deceitful behaviour’ to secure his interview with the Princess of Wales.

The inquiry stated that the journalist commissioned fake bank documents to acquire access to the royal.

The Panorama interview famously saw Princess Diana divulge details of her relationship to Prince Charles, saying that there were ‘three of us’ in their marriage regarding his affair with Camilla Parker-Bowles.

Meanwhile, it appears that Britney may relate to the late Princess, given her own troubling rise in the spotlight.

The Born To Make You Happy singer was at the centre of the documentary, Framing Britney Spears.

The groundbreaking documentary looked at the ongoing story of Britney’s controversial conservatorship, which she’s been under since 2008, and the Free Britney movement aiming to release the superstar from its constraints.
