After 38 incredible series, Doctor Who is as popular as ever.

Currently, Jodie Whittaker plays the 13th Doctor, with odds on who is set to replace her in the role.

Fans invested in the world of Daleks, the Doctor and the Tardis may be pleased to know a London show about the series has landed.

But what exactly is Doctor Who: Time Fracture, and is it a normal theatre performance?

Here’s everything you need to know.

What is Doctor Who: Time Fracture?

Doctor Who: Time Fracture is a new live, interactive theatre show – dubbed as a ‘groundbreaking immersive theatrical experience’.

It’s been created by live entertainment company Immersive Everywhere – in conjunction with the BBC, who own the trademarks to Doctor Who.

Essentially, it’s a live performance, but with an interactive element – exploring 17 worlds connected to Doctor Who. So, lots of time-jumping.

We know it’s set to contain countless set pieces and props from across 58 years of the show’s history – including a Cyberman tomb.

But we don’t know a few things: the creators have kept secret the appearance of an ‘iconic villain’, according to Radio Times.

The whole experience lasts for two hours and 15 minutes, but you don’t sit down for a whole show like you’d expect to in a theatre.

It doesn’t take place in a traditional theatre, either. The venue is in Mayfair, Central London at UNIT HQ (W1K 5AB) – not too far from Claridge’s Hotel and Bond Street Tube Station.

You can interact as much as you like, though – so don’t worry about having to get too involved if you’d rather just take it all in.

Who will be in the immersive Doctor Who experience?

Doctor Who: Time Fracture features 42 performers – listed on the experience’s official website.

There aren’t many famous names in the main cast – though anyone who has enjoyed immersive theatre performances from the likes of Secret Cinema and The Immersive Great Gatsby will likely recognise a few faces, too.

Perhaps one of the most exciting appearances is actor David Bradley.

David reprises his role as the 1st Doctor for the experience – albeit in virtual cameo form.

Jodie Whittaker is also set to make an appearance in pre-recorded material.

Other exciting (presumably virtual) cameos include Tom Baker, Colin Baker, Peter Davison, Jo Martin and Sylvester McCoy.

Matt Smith, who played the 11th Doctor, is currently filming the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon – so isn’t thought to be involved.

Nor is Peter Capaldi, the 12th Doctor, who will next appear in James Gunn’s new blockbuster The Suicide Squad.

Torchwood star John Barrowman was due to appear in Time Fracture in pre-recorded material, however he was removed following allegations he had previously ‘exposed’ himself while working on the Torchwood set.

They opened up about their experiences of working with Barrowman in a Guardian report, but stressed that it was not sexually predatory behaviour.

John admitted to ‘tomfoolery’ but told The Guardian that his ‘high-spirited behaviour’ was ‘only ever intended in good humour to entertain colleagues on set and backstage’.

He added: ‘With the benefit of hindsight, I understand that upset may have been caused by my exuberant behaviour and I have apologised for this previously.

‘Since my apology in November 2008, my understanding and behaviour have also changed.’

A statement published from Immersive Everywhere in mid-May said:

‘Immersive Everywhere has taken the decision to remove [John Barrowman’s] pre-record from Doctor Who: Time Fracture.’

‘We will continue to include content that pays tribute to this brilliant show that is Torchwood so as not to disappoint its fans, and are working on an exciting storyline to be announced soon.’
