Pointless has become a staple of teatime TV since it first hit screens in 2009, with over 1,000 episodes of the show having been made since then.

The format of the series is simple – contestants have to guess, through a series of rounds, correct but unpopular answers to a series of general knowledge questions – scoring big if they manage to find those all-elusive ‘pointless’ answers.

Of course the show has no shortage of contestants lining up to take part – but if you fancy trying your luck against Alexander Armstrong and Richard Osman, maybe winning yourself some money in the process, just how do you go about applying?

Here’s what you need to know…

How to apply to appear on Pointless

Contestants can apply to be on Pointless by filling in the online form here.

At the moment, however, we’ve got some bad news for you – applications for the show are currently closed.

That’s not to say that they won’t be looking for more contestants in the near future – with the website advising you keep an eye on the show’s Facebook page for updates.

The makers were previously calling for people to apply in the series between November 2020 and February of this year – so it’s definitely worth keeping tabs on their page to see when the next application period might open.

If you do decide to apply as and when you can, it’s worth bearing in mind that contestants must be aged 18 or over and be current legal residents of the UK, Isle Of Man or Channel Islands.

You’ll also need someone who’s willing to take part in the show with you, as contestants compete in pairs.

When is Pointless on?

Pointless is on BBC One on weekdays at 5.15pm.

If you miss any instalments you can catch up via the BBC iPlayer.
