Michael Bisping Calls Israel Adesanya ‘The New Anderson Silva’

UFC Hall of Famer Michael Bisping spoke to Helen Yee and commented on the current middleweight champion Israel Adesanya. Bisping who was the divisional champion prior to his loss to Georges St-Pierre and eventual retirement has an affinity for the 185-pound weight class. Israel Adesanya has captured everyone’s attention with his flashy fighting style and Bisping is no exception.

Despite coming off a loss in his last fight for the light heavyweight strap, Israel Adesanya retained his middleweight championship. ‘The Last Stylebender’ is undefeated in the weight class and has bested Paulo Costa, Yoel Romero, and Robert Whittaker. He’s gearing up for yet another title defense at UFC 263 against Marvin Vettori that takes place in Arizona.

“Adesanya has improved, I think he’s really filled those shoes as champion if you will. He’s got the swag. We know he’s so confident but he’s confident for a reason. He’s confident because his striking is some of the best we’ve ever seen in the UFC.”

“He’s the new Anderson Silva, he doesn’t like that but still the way Anderson Silva wowed people back in the day, Adesanya has the capability to do that. He is a tremendous fighter, he’s wiped out the division and he’s already beaten Marvin once so it would be disrespectful to say that he can’t do that again.”

Bisping’s assessment of Adesanya’s skill set is meaningful especially since he’s gone to war against Anderson Silva for five rounds. Not to mention, Adesanya has fought ‘The Spider’ already in what was an exciting striking showcase. The Nigerian-born champion will be keen to put his skills on display and dismantle Vettori at UFC 263.

Both men have faced each other in the past and the champion won’t be looking to win by split decision the second time around.
