Filming has officially concluded on the sixth and final series of Peaky Blinders – and it’s a bittersweet feeling.

The historical crime drama began broadcasting in 2012, and it was confirmed earlier this year that the sixth instalment, set for broadcast on BBC One, will be the last.

On Instagram, the show’s director, Anthony Byrne, shared a snap of him posing alongside fellow crew members, as he held onto a clapperboard.

‘Done & Done & Done,’ he captioned the post.

Production on the final series began in January this year, after filming was subjected to delays due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Shooting was brought to a halt again in April after a crew member received a ‘false positive’ coronavirus test on set, but it later resumed at the beginning of May.

Returning cast members include Cillian Murphy (Tommy Shelby), Michael Gray (Finn Cole), Paul Anderson (Arthur Shelby) and Sam Claflin (Oswald Mosley), who had been introduced in series five.

Amber Anderson has been cast in a mystery new role, while Line Of Duty star Stephen Graham will also be in the next series.

Stephen later shared the first official photo of himself on set in April, after his casting was announced by the BBC.

Series six will follow on from the fifth instalment’s explosive cliffhanger – which saw Tommy holding a gun to his own head.

We’re also set to find out who betrayed Tommy after his failed assassination attempt on Mosley, and we’ll be finding out more about Gina Gray’s (Anya Taylor-Joy) family.

Director Anthony previously told Obsessed With Peaky Blinders: ‘Gina and whoever her family are, will make themselves known, Oswald Mosley and some people around him and his world.

‘Well Gina is obviously American and she comes from quite an influential American family, who are not overtly a crime family, but there’s a lot of grey there and there’s sort of teed up to be delved into in the next season.’

Bring it on!

And although this is the final series of Peaky Blinders, creator Steven Knight previously said that the story  ‘will continue in another form’, and later hinted at a movie.

Peaky Blinders season one to five are available to stream on BBC iPlayer and Netflix.
