SHOCKING! WWE Extends Partnership Hand to NJPW

The pro wrestling landscape has definitely seen some tectonic shifts over the past one year. AEW is currently working alongside several top promotions such as NJPW, AAA, and Impact Wrestling. However, it seems like the AEW-NJPW working relationship won’t last soon. Why? Because WWE are making a move.

During this week’s Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer revealed WWE President Nick Khan is leading the front towards a working relationship with NJPW. Meltzer notes the talks started way back in late March or early April. However, there is no word where it stands or what’s next.

WWE extends partnership hand to NJPW?

Dave Meltzer also adds that if WWE and NJPW come to an agreement, then it would allow NJPW and WWE talent appear for each other. He noted NJPW is currently working with AEW and Impact Wrestling, and they also have partnerships with CMLL and ROH. Sadly, the COVID-19 pandemic has comparatively put things on the back burner.

He wrote, “With [Nick] Khan, the former isolationist attitude of WWE vs. everyone is changing with the idea WWE is part of the wrestling landscape and not separate from the pro wrestling landscape. Obviously it’s also to keep New Japan, which pre-pandemic was the third strongest company in the world, away from working with other companies which could strengthen the opposition.”

The veteran journalist also notes that a lot of today’s young generation still watch or grew up watching New Japan Pro Wrestling on YouTube. He added a lot of them are young wrestlers who have career goals of working for NJPW than the set of wrestlers before them.

Like Meltzer said, we don’t know where the talks have reached or if they’ve fallen through. Either way, we will keep you updated as the story progresses. If you ask us, a WWE-NJPW partnership would literally change the course of pro wrestling forever. We cannot fathom over the number of dream matches we could see if it happens!

Now, while the world would get crazy over Seth Rollins vs Kazuchika Okada, or Jay White vs Roman Reigns. But what we want, and have rather wanted since over a decade, is ‘The Champ’ John Cena vs ‘The Ace’ Hiroshi Tanahashi. Do you think WWE and NJPW will work together?
