WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley is Surprised After the Release of Tom Phillips from WWE

WWE released former SmackDown color commentator Tom Phillips from his contract after almost a decade in the company. The news of Phillips’ release shocked everyone in the WWE Universe, fans, superstars and legends alike. One such WWE Legend unhappy with the release is Mick Foley.

Mick Foley did not expect WWE to release Tom Phillips

WWE Hall of Famer Mick Foley took to Twitter after hearing the news of Tom Phillips’ WWE release. Foley shared he was surprised to see WWE release Phillips. He added he always loved Tom’s work and thought he had a great chemistry with his fellow commentators. Well, same Harcore Legend, same.

Tom Phillips is one of the finest color commentators in today’s era. It’s a shame they let him go. In fact, everyone thought Tom Phillips would replace Adnan Virk on Raw following the latter’s release. However, WWE announced the addition of Jimmy Smith to the Raw commentary team.

A talent like Phillips will surely won’t have trouble finding employment elsewhere. It’s no one else’s loss, but WWE’s. The reason for his release is believed to be the company-wide releases taking place since the last few days.

Last month, WWE released several main roster superstars. A few days ago, they released several talent from NXT. And now, the ongoing staff releases. Several people lost their jobs, but Tom Phillips’s name shocked the most. After all, who would release one of the best on their roster? Well, no one, but WWE can!

Will we see Phillips in AEW?

Like always, when a WWE Superstar or employee gets released, there are rampant talks of them joining AEW. So, let’s dive in and check out this possibility. Tom Phillips to AEW would be incredible, but where does he fit in?

AEW Dynamite has a set commentary team of Jim Ross, Tony Schiavone, and Excalibur. Not just Dynamite, but Dark and Dark: Elevation are also set with Excalibur-Taz and Tony Schiavone-Paul Wight at the commentary table respectively. However, there is one small ray of hope – AEW Rampage.

AEW’s newest hour on TNT will debut under the Rampage banner on Friday Nights at 10E. Considering it’s going to be an ever bigger show than Dark and Dark: Elevation , Tom Phillips would be a perfect fit. Let’s see where he ends up next.
