Are Fans Allowed at AEW Double or Nothing 2021? Details on AEW’s Safety Protocols for COVID-19
AEW Double or Nothing would have live fans, however, this would be the first time for an AEW event to have the crowd at its full capacity. The venue, Daily’s Place holds 5,500 people.
The event was initially ready to take place on May 29 at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas. However, during AEW Revolution in March, the promotion stated that ‘Double or Nothing’ would take place at Daily’s Place.
Ahead of the show, AEW is organizing a ‘fan fest’ which will feature live stage shows, exhibition matches, meet and greets, and more. Hence, the fans might be wondering what is AEW’s approach to combatting the pandemic.
In a press conference last month, former TNT Champion and AEW EVP Cody Rhodes weighed in on the situation. He gets a temperature check in the parking lot and down the hallway just to get into his office. Ring crew works overtime to sanitize, and AEW tries their best to prevent cross-contamination.
Cody also praised AEW medical head, Doc Sampson and the med team’s work. The team is making sure not that everyone stays safe, not only Double or Nothing but during the other live events as well.
AEW even has a protocol for those who test positive while programming. “If someone were to test positive they would get the swab test, and would not be near any other staff crew,” the press report said, “Medical / Wrestling / Staff have been divided to prevent cross-pollination. As a result of the delineation, a positive test wouldn’t shut down production.”
Why is AEW hosting the live crowd?
As a sports entertainer, WWE and AEW superstars relish the live audience. Not only the live audience adds to the excitement, but the superstars get energized with the crowd’s enthusiasm.
Cody explained further, “no one in the crowd, there is no one to toss his belts to, and it’s their job as talent to make sure they’re entertaining and also relish the challenge. He applauded Chris Jericho in particular for stepping up.”
Cody believed that the “swords have been sharpened” regarding the talents’ attitude towards the pandemic. Apart from this, AEW is still working on touring the country.
Cody revealed their current “plan is to stay in one spot,” to eliminate risks. While the former TNT Champion hoped to see the fans soon, but he’d prefer to stay in Jacksonville until all the risks are over.
