“Didn’t Live & Die by Ferrari” – Daniel Ricciardo Explains Why He Didn’t Take 2018 F1 Snub to Heart

Daniel Ricciardo has been linked to Ferrari ever since his departure from Red Bull. However, that never came to be, as Ricciardo moved to Renault in 2019 and now to McLaren for the 2021 season. Unfortunately, he never got the chance to sign with the Scuderia.

The Australian driver revealed that he never had his heart set on the Italian team, even though he supported them while being a young fan. Ricciardo, despite having Italian heritage on his dad’s side, never dreamed of racing for Ferrari.

Speaking to ESPN, Ricciardo said, “Growing up as a really young kid before I was racing, it was Ferrari [that I supported]. We were, I guess, a Ferrari family because my dad was born in Sicily, but that was kind of it.

“And in saying that, dad was also a massive Senna fan so we didn’t live and die by Ferrari. I had a little bit of Ferrari merchandise, but it wasn’t my dream to race for them.

“My dream was always to get into Formula One,” Ricciardo concluded.

How’s the season so far for the Australian?

In his new beginning with McLaren, things did get off to a rough start for Ricciardo. He has failed to make it into the top 5 in every race till now and is having a difficult time getting used to the car.

He hopes to bounce back and bring the results he is expected to for the Woking-based team. After failing to make an impact at the Monaco GP, having qualified 12th and finished in the same place, he looks to redemption at the upcoming race at Baku.

Ricciardo holds the eighth position in the driver’s standings with just 24 points to his name. He hopes to bring more points for himself and his McLaren colleagues in his first season with a Woking-based outfit.
