Friends star Matt LeBlanc has somehow become everyone’s favourite Irish uncle

In a turn of events that we never would have expected from the Friends reunion, Matt LeBlanc has been adopted by Ireland.

The Joey Tribbiani actor, who reunited with his former co-stars almost 20 years after the end of the beloved comedy series, has caused the memes to roll in, as he’s inexplicably reminded everyone of their Irish dads and uncles.

Sharing snaps of the 53-year-old actor (who is very much an American with no Irish heritage to speak of), Twitter users have been placing him in some very specific situations – and they couldn’t be more accurate.

‘Matt leblanc is your uncle when your parents forced your 6 year old self to stand up in front of the adults after a family dinner and sing a song you just learned in primary school,’ one tweet read.

Another added: ‘Never has a childhood of growing up in rural Ireland better prepared me for something more than it’s prepared me for this Matt LeBlanc being your uncle meme.’

‘I wonder if Matt Leblanc knows about his meme status in Ireland,’ another fan pondered, while one more said: ‘The nation of Ireland collectively adopting Matt LeBlanc as our gas culchie uncle is my new favourite thing.’

We’re sure he wouldn’t complain!

Friends: The Reunion saw Matt reunite with his former co-stars, Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller) and Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing).

Fans were emotional as they saw the six catch up years after the NBC comedy ended in 2004.

The 90-minute special saw the cast reminscing on some of their favourite moments (including Matt’s epic outtakes) and even spilling some massive set secrets, like Jennifer and David’s real-life romance.

‘The first season I had a major crush on Jen and at some point we were both crushing on each other,’ explained David. ‘But it was like two ships passing because one of us was always in a relationship and we never crossed that boundary. We always respected that.’

Jennifer jumped in and confirmed: ‘I remember saying to David, “it’s going to be such a bummer if the first time you and I actually is going to be on national television.” Sure enough first time we kissed was in that coffee shop.

‘But we just channelled all our love and adoration for each other into Ross and Rachel.’

We might have to spend the next 20 years getting over the fact that Roschel was real.
