Miles Teller replaces Armie Hammer on Godfather series The Offer following disturbing allegations
Miles Teller has replaced Armie Hammer in The Offer, a TV series which will explore the making of classic film The Godfather.
Hammer left the project in January after explicit messages he allegedly sent surfaced on social media.
Teller will now play Oscar-winning producer Al Ruddy, replacing Hammer in the role. The actor is known for his performances in films such as Whiplash and Fantastic Four.
The Offer, from streaming service Paramount+, will tell of Ruddy’s experiences bringing The Godfather to the screen in 1972. The classic movie was directed by Francis Ford Coppola, and starred Marlon Brando as mafia boss Vito Corleone and Al Pacino as his son, Michael.
It comes after Hammer, 34, was accused of rape by a woman in Los Angeles in March. Police are investigating the allegation.
It was also reported that Hammer allegedly told women that he was ‘100% a cannibal’ and described disturbing sexual fantasies in leaked DMs attributed to him.
Hammer previously confirmed that he had dropped out of Shotgun Wedding, a comedy with Jennifer Lopez, while denying the claims against him.
Hammer said: ‘I’m not responding to these bulls*** claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for four months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic. Lionsgate is supporting me in this, and I’m grateful to them for that.’
Unverified DMs shared on social media were attributed to Hammer, in which the sender had cannibalistic fantasies and wanted the recipients of the messages to be his slaves.
One ex-girlfriend alleged that Hammer carved his initial into her skin during sex, while others – many anonymous – accused Hammer of being emotionally abusive.
An attorney for the Call Me By Your Name star called the allegations ‘patently untrue’, and said that any interactions with sexual partners were ‘completely consensual in that they were fully discussed, agreed upon, and mutually participatory’.
