My girlfriend belittles me in public and I really can’t stand it any longer
DEAR DEIDRE: IT is embarrassing that my girlfriend belittles me and is rude in public.
I don’t think I have a future with someone who obviously doesn’t respect me.
During a meal at our local pub, she told me to “clean my ears out” in front of the waitress because I hadn’t heard the pudding options.
She talks over me and is dismissive. I’m 31, she is 27 and we have been together for two years.
In private she often accuses me of not committing to her and tries to railroad me into letting her move in.
She says I am keeping my options open. But the truth is I’m sick of her put-downs and really want to finish it. But I’m not sure I can face the showdown.

DEIDRE SAYS: Not wanting an argument isn’t a good enough reason to stay in a finished relationship. You are wasting her time and yours.

Continuing to evade her, without giving straight answers, will understandably lead her to become more frustrated.
Just tell her exactly what you have been able to explain to me. You do not have to be unkind, but a firm approach will be best.
I am sending you my support pack Standing Up For Yourself which will help you. And good luck.
