Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head singer BJ Thomas dies aged 78

Singer BJ Thomas, best known for his recording of Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head, has died at the age of 78.

The musician’s death was announced on his Twitter page, with a message simply reading: ‘It is with profound sadness we confirm the passing of BJ Thomas.’

It was accompanied by a photo of the late star, with a caption reading: ‘1942-2021’.

Thomas died from complications from lung cancer, the Washington Post has reported.

He announced in March that he had been diagnosed with stage four lung cancer and was reciving treatment.

Thomas was a five-time Grammy Award winner, widely known for his hit songs in the 1960s and 70s.

His career began in the 60s with his band Thomas and the Triumphs, later seeing success with songs like The Eyes of a New York Woman and Hooked On A Feeling.

In 1969, Thomas’ song Raindrops Keep Fallin’ On My Head was featured in the film Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, with the hit receiving an Academy Award for best song.
