“Very Very Strange Mentality”: Nick Kyrgios Rips Federico Coria for Taking Post-Match Selfie With Novak Djokovic
Australian maverick Nick Kyrgios hasn’t appeared on the ATP Tour after his third-round loss to Dominic Thiem at the Australian Open 2021. However, his eye did catch the attention of what went after Novak Djokovic and Federico Coria’s match in Belgrade.
In the quarterfinals of ATP Belgrade-2 2021, the Serbian World No.1 thrashed the Argentine 6-1, 6-0. But surprisingly, it was a moment of pride for Coria as he competed against his idol. Moreover, the 29-year-old made the most of the time, clicking a selfie and expressing his admiration to Djokovic.
“I hugged him, I told him ‘I love you’ and I thanked him for all what he did for tennis. I was like a kid who meets his idol,” Federico said after the match. Given the stature of his loss, Kyrgios did not appreciate the behavior at all.

Undoubtedly, Nick Kyrgios has built an odd reputation with Serbian ace Novak Djokovic. From organizing the Adria Tour amid the pandemic to the Serb’s celebration, the Australian expressed his opposite views.
But this time, although he acclaimed the 18-time Grand Slam champion, Kyrgios took a strike at his opponent. In essence, the Aussie star does not consider a selfie as the right way to accept a 6-0 defeat.
“So you are taking a photo after he has literally burnt you off the court,” Kyrgios commented, “very very strange mentality to have. Joker one of the best for sure, cmon g losing a set 6-0 then asking for a photo? That ain’t it.”
Notably, Kyrgios is one of the rare tennis players who has a 100% record against the Serbian ace. At present, their head-to-head standing is 2-0 against Djokovic.
For the same reason, the current World No.56 also does not consider Novak as the G.O.A.T (greatest of all time). However, their unique bonding is one of the most intriguing subjects in tennis. Hence, fans desperately hope to see them on the court once again.

Djokovic top seed at French Open 2021, Kyrgios opts out again
The Aussie star does not enjoy playing on red dirt. Consequently, he did not participate in the French Open for the second consecutive year. So, Kyrgios and Djokovic matchup will have to wait a while longer.
On the other side, the 34-year-old Serbian has reached the final in Belgrade 2. Concerningly, he might not have much rest as he begins his campaign at the French Open 2021 tomorrow against Tennys Sandgren.
All in all, Djokovic is one of the most favorites for the title after record 13-time Rafael Nadal. Let us see how much confidence from the Belgrade win will help him in Paris.
