VIDEO: When Jorge Linares viciously Knocked Down Vasyl Lomachenko for the first time ever

Former world champion Jorge Linares will return to the ring later tonight after more than a year out of the ring. ‘El Nino De Oro’ will face lightweight champion, Devin Haney, in an exciting contest. However, some will argue that this fight is not his hardest bout.

The Venezuelan has previously fought P4P superstar Vasyl Lomachenko. And although he lost his lightweight titles to the Ukrainian, Linares created history by being the first and only boxer to knock down ‘Hi-Tech.’

The 47-5 boxer took on Lomachenko in a blockbuster event back in 2018. With the WBA world title on the line, both fighters provided an exciting contest. Lomachenko came out as the aggressor and took the fight to the Venezuelan.

However, Linares used his experience and showed his fantastic chin. He took damage and returned it with counters of his own. This made for a scintillating clash. And the first big moment surprisingly came to Linares. In the fifth round, The Venezuelan countered Lomachenko’s attack with a powerful straight right. The punch landed flush on ‘Loma’ and sent the Ukrainian crashing to the canvas.

Jorge Linares still came up short

Up to the point of the knockdown, both fighters were even. However, the lockdown allowed Linares to push on and get a grip on the bout. And the Venezuelan had the ability to do this. However, he was facing one of the best boxers in Lomachenko.

The Ukrainian did not let the knockdown affect him. He got back up and continued with the same approach. And Linares found it difficult to step on the gas, but he stuck to the game plan. Therefore, it was still a very close contest.

However, in the tenth round, ‘Hi-Tech’ landed a fast combination which resulted in a powerful body shot to the liver. As a result, Linares went down and could not get back up before the count. Thus, ‘Loma’ won with a TKO. However, the scorecards at the stoppage read 85-85, 84-86, 86-84. Therefore, it was a very close fight.
