BBC ready to pay £1m to graphic designer who created fake bank statements for Martin Bashir

THE BBC is poised to pay £1million to the graphic designer who mocked up fake bank statements for disgraced journalist Martin Bashir.

Matt Wiessler approached Beeb bosses to say he believed Bashir used them to trick Princess Diana into doing her tell-all 1995 Panorama interview with him.

Instead of investigating his claims, the BBC blacklisted Mr Wiessler.

BBC director-general Tim Davie will meet Mr Wiessler on Thursday.

He said the corporation were “at fault” and would talk possible compensation.

A friend of Mr Wiessler’s told the Mail on Sunday: “He is very much hoping that this meeting…will at least result in an apology and perhaps push forward his claim for compensation.”
