Brandon Moreno Dismisses Deiveson Figueiredo’s Claims That He Was Hospitalized the Night Before the Fight

The flyweight division was in limbo before Deiveson Figueiredo firmly established himself as the champion with two impressive wins over Joseph Benavidez. He then made quick work of Alex Perez submitting him under two minutes of the very first round. Further displaying that he was seemingly levels above everyone else in the division.

However, in his most recent title defense, Figueiredo looked the most vulnerable he has since his loss to Jussier Formiga in March 2019. Figueiredo and Brandon Moreno put on a fight of the year candidate as they swung leather for five rounds straight, resulting in a draw and setting themselves up for an epic rematch.

In a recent interview, Mike Heck asked Moreno what he made of Figueiredo’s hospitalization claims before their first fight and if he still believes he was making excuses.

He said, “Man yes definitely. I went to the hospital before a fight too you know? It’s not good, but it is normal. If you ask to some other fighters, they can tell you the same. Some guys win, some guys loss but it is what it is you know. Again, I went to the hospital too in other fights, before the fights.”

‘The Assassin Baby’ continued, “Man, the guy looks impressive the guy looks hard, you know, powerful. I understand everything around Figueiredo is like aah this guy is powerful, this guy is amazing. This guy is a god. But some little skinny kid from Mexico comes and shows you you’re not god, It’s hard to swallow you know?”

Can Brandon Moreno get the job done against Deiveson Figueiredo in the rematch?

Both Moreno and Figueiredo accepted the fight against each other just a few weeks after their respective fights. Both men put on a valiant effort and it was only after the fight it was revealed that Figueiredo had to be hospitalized due to a stomach infection on the night before the fight. However, he continued with the fight and was overwhelmed with emotion once the scores were read-out.

This time around, both men have had sufficient time to rest and recover from their fight. Both men are not making a quick turnaround and have had almost half a year off. Therefore, fans might witness possibly an even more exciting fight than the two men put on at UFC 256
