Miles Teller speaks out after violent assault in Hawaii as presenter mocks attack
Miles Teller has spoken out for the first time since getting attacked in Hawaii, to slam a broadcaster who made fun of the assault.
The Divergent actor was brutally jumped by two men while on holiday in Hawaii with his wife Keleigh Teller, actress Shailene Woodley and her NFL player boyfriend Aaron Rodgers.
Miles, 34, was reportedly punched in the face several times by the men and police are now investigating the incident.
SiriusXM host Pat McAfee mocked the incident on Twitter by sharing a clip from WWE Smackdown where one wrestler lands a massive uppercut to his opponent. Pat wrote alongside the video: ‘Wow Miles Teller didn’t even eat a shot that hard.’
The actor caught wind of the post making light of his attack and replied: ‘I got jumped by two guys in a bathroom. Never met them before in my life but ya cool wrestling segue bud.’
Pat then apologised and responded: ‘Miles.. I apologise for not knowing the whole story. I will fix my position and make it right… with that being said, it was a pretty good segue.’
It was originally reported that the assault on Miles had been triggered by an unpaid bill.
However, his wife Keleigh clarified the circumstances in her Instagram stories on Friday and wrote: ‘The story reported about Miles being punched in the face over “money” is completely false. Miles was jumped by 2 men we have never met after they trapped him in a bathroom.
‘It seems these same men have done this to many people and we appreciate your support Maui. This is now a criminal investigation [sic].’
Despite Keleigh’s claims of Miles being attacked by two men, the MPD police force only mentioned one attacker involved.
A spokesperson said: ‘Police responded to a report of an assault that occurred at a West Maui restaurant involving a male victim and one responsible party.
‘The incident is currently under investigation; no further information is available at this time.’
