Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva Returns to MMA Action After 4 Long Years

Former UFC heavyweight Antonio ‘Bigfoot’ Silva is set to make his return to MMA after a lengthy 4 -year hiatus. Silva will face Quentin Domingas at Megdan Fighting 9 that goes down in Serbia on June 13, 2021. The last time ‘Bigfoot’ fought under the unified MMA rules was back in 2017 where he suffered a KO loss.

Antonio Silva spoke to AG Fight in the lead-up to his return and revealed that he’s dialed in completely after the lay-off. He explained that it was his passion and love for the sport that sparked his return. Chiefly, many fight fans rule out the possibility of seeing ‘Bigfoot’ after he suffered a skid.

“I am very anxious after a few years away. I am motivated, happy to arrive on the 13th of June to return to MMA, against a guy who has six fights, who is very strong. It was the career that launched me on the martial art scene, so I have a great love. New opportunities appeared, but as soon as it was MMA, I already thought it was time (to return). I had my first fight in 2004. I have a feeling for MMA, so it’s quick to pick up. I’m 300% focused to get back,” Bigfoot said.

Antonio Silva: Back on his grind

Silva’s return was a surprise to many, not just because he had suffered losses in MMA, but also in other disciplines. He laced up the gloves for kickboxing scraps and didn’t end up faring too well in that domain. He competed under the Glory Kickboxing and BKFC banner and was knocked out brutally by fighters like Rico Verhoeven.

He’s 1-7 in his last 8 professional bouts in MMA and was knocked out in 6 of his 7 losses. There are questions regarding his durability, however, the time away from the active MMA competition could be the answer to his woes.

Bigfoot’ is a fan favorite as violence is almost a featured outcome every time he decides to step foot in the cage. His war against Mark Hunt that took the world by storm remains one of the most visually compelling scraps.
