Grammy-winning producer Turn Me Up Josh dies
Hip hop producer Turn Me Up Josh – real name Joshua Samuel – has died, it has been reported.
The musician’s death was announced in the early hours of Monday by his longtime collaborator and rapper Lil Durk.
‘Rip turn me up josh smh,’ he tweeted.
The rapper also shared a photo of Josh working in the studio and left several crying and praying emoji on his Instagram stories.
Tributes have begun to pour in for the engineer, with London On The Track writing: ‘Long live josh.’
One fan paid condolences and tweeted: ‘Rip turnmeupJosh smh What you created will keep hitting our souls.’
Praising the musician’s talent, another said: ‘Bro had such good and melodic beats.’
‘RIP turn me up josh bro produced sum legendary tracks,’ another said as one hailed him as an ‘amazing producer.
Another fan wrote: ‘Wow, not Josh. Josh Samuel aka “TurnMeUpJosh” has passed away.. rest in peace, gone way too soon.’
One other tweeted: ‘If you listen to rap now and don’t know turn me up josh you gotta listen closer. i don’t think i have a playlist w/o him on it.’
No other details have been revealed about Josh’s death.
Josh was best known for working on Lil Durk’s music, while he also engineered Migos’ breakout hit Versace, Megan Thee Stallion’s Movie and Nas song Til The War Is Won, while also working with the likes of DaBaby, Tinashe and Def Loaf.
Last year, he earned a Grammy nomination for his work on Drake and Lil Durk’s single Laugh Now Cry Later, which reached number two on the US Billboard Hot 100 chart and two in Drake’s native Canada.
Josh’s most recent recent work is expected to feature on Lil Baby and Lil Durk’s joint album, Voices of the Heroes, set for release in June.
