Horner Not Ruling Out Red Bull as Engine Supplier for Other F1 Teams

Earlier this year it was announced that Red Bull will make their own power trains from 2022 onwards. Hence, it raised questions if they could also be potential engineer suppliers to the teams on the grid. Team principal, Christian Horner is very much looking at the prospect of it as a side business.

The Milton-Keynes squad was in hot waters, when their current power unit supplier, Honda, announced their departure from the sport at the end of 2021. However, the team had a sigh of relief when they received permission to make their own engines in-house once the Japanese manufacturer leaves.

Red Bull sees being supplying engines to others as a side business

As quoted by Autocar, Horner said, “We’re open to working with any OEM or technical entity. We’re extremely keen to have the engine fully integrated into the chassis side of the business, hence this investment.”

“It would be very much getting involved with our entity rather than doing something different,” Horner concluded.

How are they performing in their last season with Honda?

The Milton-Keynes outfit have surprised everyone with their pace this season, with Mercedes facing a genuine challenge for the title. Red Bull have been won two out of the five races up till now, courtesy of Max Verstappen. They have also featured on all podiums to date this season, which is not something the Silver Arrows can say.

In terms of the championship, the Austrian team lead the constructors’ championship with 149 points while Verstappen leads the driver’s standings with 105 points. They hope to extend their lead in the upcoming race and would aim to win this year’s title.
