Lakers vs Suns Playoff Series: Stat Proves Why Anthony Davis Injury Is Worrisome for the Defending Champions

The Los Angeles Lakers suffered a defeat at the hands of the Phoenix Suns in game 4. The Suns tied the series 2-2 as Chris Paul looked sharp on court. Despite CP3 not being 100 percent while still nursing a shoulder injury, Devin Booker and Jae Crowder scored invaluable points.

The duo stacked up 34 points to help their side beat the defending champions. As we head to game 5, the Suns have the opportunity to take a lead as they step onto their home court. But, the main talking point will be about Anthony Davis’ injury. He aggravated his knee during the game and missed the second half.

This will be a cause of concern because AD is crucial to the way the Lakers play.

Anthony Davis is important for the Lakers

Davis’ offensive output is exemplary. Without him, the Lakers have a worrying 19-17 win-loss record. If we look at their (2-6) record against the top teams like Utah, Brooklyn, Phoenix, and 76ers, it is notable that they don’t perform well when AD is absent on the floor. What’s more worrying is that they have suffered losses to lower-ranked teams like Sacramento Kings and New Orleans Pelicans when AD could not play.

This will be a cause of concern, as these teams are the favorites to win the title. Hence, in Davis’ absence, it will be tough for the Lakers to win a championship.

Though Davis is a doubt, they still have LeBron James on their team. The pressure will be on James to perform in the next game for the franchise to get past the Suns.

LeBron James should unleash himself

Bron scored 25 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and had 6 assists in the game. Unfortunately, his 6 turnovers proved costly for the Lakers. Although James himself is still nursing an ankle injury, there is no doubt in his capability to produce when it matters. After the game, he spoke about being ready for the next game as he will be the key man now.

“For me, it’s putting our team in position to be successful. These shoulders were built for a reason, and if it takes a little more to put on top of it, I’m ready for the challenge,” said James.

Schroder, Drummond, and Kuzma need to step up in Davis’ absence. It will not be an easy task as Davis averages over 28.1 points, 10.6 rebounds, and 1.9 blocks per game in his career while playing in the playoffs.

We cannot underestimate the importance of Anthony Davis on the Lakers. Winning the next game will be a challenge as they hope Davis will come back in game 6. The organization needs their power forward, otherwise, they will be at risk of bowing out in the first round of the playoffs.
