Loose Women star Jane Moore feels Prime Minister Boris Johnson’s surprise wedding announcement was beneficial to his career as it is ‘good PR to be married in office’.

On Sunday the prime minister and partner Carrie Symonds, who share son Wilfred, revealed they had tied the knot in a secret ceremony at Westminster Cathedral on May 29.

The couple were joined by a small group of close friends and family and they hope to have a larger celebration next summer.

Johnson and Carrie are said to have sent out save-the-date cards to family and friends for a celebration on July 30, 2022. Carrie is said to be taking the prime minister’s surname and be known as Carrie Johnson from now on.

Monday’s episode of Loose Women saw panellists Kaye Adams, Jane, Denise Welch and Kelle Bryan discuss the prime minister getting married for a third time.

Jane wished the couple well in their married life but couldn’t help but see an advantage politically for Johnson.

When asked by Kaye ‘what would be behind the timing’ of their wedding, she replied: ‘I just think Bank Holiday weekend, they could probably get Westminster whatever it is that day. I don’t think there was any particular timing other than they’ve got a young child. Let’s face it it is good PR for a prime minister to get married, to be married in office I think.

‘Clearly they love each other. But you know, was my heart filled with gladness? I just thought, “Oh man married for third time” to be honest and turned the page. I’m very happy for them but it has no impact on my life.’

Denise, who is married to her third husband, joked: ‘Is that what you said when I got married? “Oh woman marries for third time”.’

‘No because you’re my friend,’ Jane told her.

The Hollyoaks star also felt that the timing of the announcement was evidence of the prime minister ‘not reading the public right’ as the pandemic continues

‘This just proved that these people don’t inhabit the same world we do,’ she added.

Loose Women airs weekdays from 12.30pm on ITV.
