Love Island star Demi Jones praised for showing scar in photo after surgery for thyroid cancer
Demi Jones has been hailed an ‘icon’ after proudly showing her scar in a social media post after undergoing surgery for thyroid cancer.
The Love Island star had a ‘golf ball-sized’ lump removed from her neck earlier this month before she was diagnosed with thyroid cancer.
In her latest Instagram post, a close-up shot of Demi reveals the small horizontal scar at the bottom of her neck.
Fans were moved by her bravery and praised the reality star for baring her ‘war wound’.
‘Can I just say how awesome it is for someone with a platform like this to show off their scars? Thank you, Demi!’ one commented. ‘I had a lump removed on my neck a few years ago and have a long scar going from my ear down my neck, and I’ve always tried to hide it. But there’s no shame in a scar and showing what you’ve been through. I and many others wish you a speedy recovery and a beautiful life.’
Sharing their own health ordeal, another fan said: ‘You look unreal! 🔥 I had my thyroid surgery last week and currently look like Frankenstein.’
‘Thankful to for Demi making our war wounds iconic,’ another praised.
Many others noted that Demi’s scar was healing well, while another stated: ‘That scar on her neck is the most beautiful thing ever. So proud of you Demi.’
One follower agreed: ‘Absolutely rocking the scar like a Queen.’
‘Looking amazing and rocking your war wound,’ another noted.
Demi, 22, confirmed she had been diagnosed with thyroid cancer in an Instagram post, explaining: ‘The tumour has been removed but I’m now due to have more surgery to remove the rest of my thyroid.
‘I’m staying very positive and I’m a strong girl so I’ll be fine, thank you for your love and support always. I’ll bounce back stronger.’
The TV star later appeared on Good Morning Britain to discuss her diagnosis and revealed that she’s been accused of lying about having cancer by trolls.
‘Even with my cancer, I’ve still had nasty comments, [people saying] “she’s lying”, this and that. I just woke up and thought it’s ridiculous,’ Demi said.
‘I don’t respond to anything, I’m quite strong and it’s not worth my time.’
Demi added: ‘It makes me sad. I’m not lying about this, it’s a really serious thing and I don’t want to be going through this.’
Doctors have reassured Demi that the cancer is treatable and she’s remaining optimistic about the future.
