“Not as Motivated as Before”: Tennis Legend Shocked With Dominic Thiem’s Loss at French Open 2021

The exit of Dominic Thiem from the French Open in the first round was a colossal upset. Fans and pundits were left stunned as the current world No. 4 was outplayed by the relentless P. Andújar.

Former World No. 1 Mats Wilander felt the same shock that the fans felt as he watched Thiem lose his game. In addition, he felt Dominic lacked the motivation to win the French Open.

What could have been the reason for Dominic Thiem’s defeat?

During the post-match analysis of the game in Eurosport, Mats Wilander expressed his shock and disappointment of seeing Thiem being knocked out in the first round. He said- ”Yes, this was a big surprise. I actually predicted him to get all the way to the finals.”

Wilander expressed his opinion about the reason for Thiem’s defeat in the French Open. Matt stated- “When you see the whole match, he looks a little bit tired. He is not as motivated as before.” Matt’s opinion about Dominic Thiem’s lack of motivation may or may not be true. However, when you analyze the match, it was very clear that Thiem was nowhere near his best.

Mats Wilander’s advice to Dominic Thiem

It is now very important for Dominic Thiem to put this Tournament in the past and focus upon winning the next. However, for that to happen, Mats Wilander asks Dominic Thiem to take a little bit of a break. Matt said- “I’m sure he is going to be back, but it does feel like he might need to take a little bit of a break at this moment.”

The Austrian was one of the favorites to win the title, and his exit does come as a sad moment for the fans. It’s been a crazy few days for the Tennis fans out there. Players like Dominic Thiem and Angelique Kerber went crashing down in the first round. It’s been a rough patch of a few months for Thiem, but the fans are in high hopes to see him comeback to his best and win titles.
