Stranger Things’ much-delayed season four is nearly here after what feels like an eternity, but fans might have to deal with tragic end if new behind the scenes pictures are anything to go by.
We’ve had cryptic teasers and troubling fan theories, and now set pictures have been revealed that hint at dark developments in upcoming episodes.
The images show cast and crew members gathered at the cemetery, and it could spell bad news for the residents of Hawkins.
The pictures were posted by Stranger Things news account @StrangerNews11, hinting at the ending of the season by adding the caption: ‘Something “massive” is happening at Hawkins Cemetery. No new photos, could be one of the last scenes of the season.’
While the photos don’t provide much in the way of context, it’s only natural that viewers have begun speculating about a tragic end for one of the show’s characters.
Fans were quick to speculate about what it could signal for the new episodes.
‘Oh god. I’m convinced Steve is going to die,’ one responded.
‘I have a strong feeling Mike is going to die this season, and I don’t know why,’ another said.
What does it mean? We’ll have to wait until the new season arrives later this year.
Production on Stranger Things 4 was halted last March as the world shut down over the spread of coronavirus and this delay in filming has resulted in fans speculating about what the new episodes could hold.
They were left confused by a recent teaser, though.
The third season of the programme ended with Hopper being seemingly killed off, sacrificing himself to help close the rift between our world and the Upside Down.
But in a teaser trailer previously shared by creators The Duffer Brothers, Hopper is now stuck in Kamchatka but so far that’s all we’ve known.
Stranger Things season four is expected to return to Netflix in 2021.
