WATCH: Jim Ross Refutes His Claim on Randy Orton Being the Best Wrestler During AEW Double or Nothing 2021

AEW commentator Jim Ross came under fire from the Internet Wrestling Community. His claim that Randy Orton is the best wrestler in the world probably drew the ire of his employers. The decision to choose Orton over AEW Champion Kenny Omega might’ve pissed off people in AEW.

Jim Ross refutes Best in the World claim

These days getting heat is extremely easy, even if you’re a legend like Jim Ross. The decision to choose Orton over Omega clearly came from JR dealing with Orton for longer. Keeping in mind that he hired Orton to WWE, JR’s claims are entirely valid.

However, fans all over the world wanted JR to name the five-star classic machine Kenny Omega as the world’s best wrestler. JR even explained his decision to his fans on his Grilling JR podcast while claiming people shouldn’t get so upset over one person’s claim.

Unfortunately for AEW’s senior advisor, he seemed forced to refute his claims on Randy Orton. At Double or Nothing, we heard the former WWE Talent Relations Executive claim, “There’s no better wrestler in the world than Kenny Omega.”

This comes before Kenny’s huge AEW World Championship defense against Pac and Orange Cassidy. He claimed if Kenny retained the title, there would be no better wrestler in the world than him. Will JR’s refuted claim come true or will we witness a twist in the tale?

There’s a special category of WWE superstars who are considered immortal, and Randy Orton is one of those wrestlers. The Viper has won fourteen World Championships, two Royal Rumble matches and headlined WrestleMania. It’s a legendary resume for a superstar with two decades of experience.

When we talk about Kenny Omega, we largely focus on his NJPW career. Despite his AEW success, the company pegged him as its golden boy from the beginning. In New Japan, he held every active male singles championship and put on classics against the likes of Okada, Ibushi, Tanahashi and Naito.

Despite his credits and acclaims, Omega has never headlined a PPV with 80,000 fans, neither has he won fourteen World Championships. Kenny has a long way to go, but for now he isn’t close to touching Orton’s level of greatness.
