Dance Moms star Zackery Torres announces they are transitioning: ‘That means I’m transgender if you didn’t know’
Dance Moms star Zackery Torres has revealed they are transitioning after sharing an exciting ‘life update’ with fans over the weekend.
The 22-year-old, who recently came out as non-binary, took to TikTok on May 30 to share their excitement and confirm their pronouns.
With Dua Lipa’s track, Levitating, playing in the background, the reality TV star stated: ‘Life update, I’m transitioning! That means I’m transgender if you didn’t know.
‘My pronouns are they/she, which means that they or she are totally fine, and I’m just hopping on here to tell you that I’m going to be posting more on Tiktok and I’m excited about it!’
Torres was previously the first male-born contestant on Abby’s Ultimate Dance Competition with coach Abby Lee Miller.
They won over many fans after they went on to compete with instructor Cathy Stein and the Candy Apples team for Dance Moms.
Taking to Instagram after the news of their plans to transition spread online, Torres added on Instagram: ‘Don’t really have a ton of words to express how I am feeling right now, other than grateful.
‘Grateful to everyone who has supported me and continued to help me be my full self. Grateful for the outpour of love and support. Grateful to all the advocates who made this possible.’
They continued: ‘As I sit here with my mount still open, it is important to recognize the amount of LGBTQIA+ individuals who do not receive this loving response.
‘There is still work to be done, and I cannot wait to be a part of it. Much love, and HAPPY EARLY PRIDE MONTH!’
Since their reality TV fame, Torres has since graduated with honors from the University of Southern California in 2021 with a Bachelors of Fine Arts degree in dance.
According to their Twitter page, they are enrolled in a Masters of Arts program in public relations and advertising to be completed in 2022.
