Max Verstappen Insists Lewis Hamilton Relationship “Normal” After Recent Tensions
In the 2021 Formula One season, Max Verstappen has emerged as Lewis Hamilton’s primary title contender. Of course, now that they are rivals, many expect them to have a tense relationship. However, the Dutchman insisted that his relationship with the Briton will not be too adversely affected.
Between the two of them, they share victories in all 5 races so far. As a result, they have stamped their authority as the favorites for the Drivers’ Championship.
This is why Verstappen hopes that the battle will rage on between them for the remainder of the season. Recently, he spoke about his off-track camaraderie with the Mercedes driver.
“Fine, we are very normal with each other,” Verstappen said. “We’ve had some great fights on track and hopefully it will stay that way throughout the year. Mercedes is still very strong on the normal circuits.
“In other years we were too slow in the first part of the season and up to speed towards the end. This year our start to the year was much better and more competitive, with the whole package. We have a good chance.”
Max Verstappen is still wary despite leading the championship
After the Monaco Grand Prix, Verstappen seized the championship lead. However, the Dutchman insisted that there are still a lot of areas where he and the team can improve. He cited races like Bahrain where he should have won, but he screwed up when he went off track.
Verstappen noted that everybody makes mistakes, but Red Bull made the fewest mistakes this year. Owing to this, the Dutchman has snatched the championship lead for the first time in his career.
At the same time, Red Bull Racing also managed to topple Mercedes off their perch for the first time. The big question ahead of the Azerbaijan Grand Prix is, can they sustain it?
