Dolly Parton has a great explanation for why she goes to bed with a full face of make-up.

Sleeping with primer, foundation, eye liner etc might be enough to drive most of us crazy if we let it, but not Dolly, who has a genius reason for wearing the warpaint.

The country music star confessed she likes to be camera ready for any possibility – for example a natural disaster that means she has to dart in the middle of the night.

She doesn’t keep it on for the entire day though, and takes a few moments out in the morning to clean her face and have a refresh as ‘my poor husband has to look at me’.

The 75-year-old told WSJ Magazine: ‘I do all my beauty work and cleaning my face in the morning because I usually try to keep my makeup on at night. Because I never know if there’s going to be an earthquake or a tornado or a storm and I’m going to have to go out in the middle of the night!’

The 9 To 5 singer added that she ‘touches up’ her make-up throughout the day, and if she’s hitting the town at night she likes to wear eye shadow, glitter and lipstick.

Another fun fact – she does her own hair too because ‘I can do it really fast’.

The star revealed that her style secret is ‘being comfortable in your own skin’ and shared that her glamorous and dramatic look was inspired by a real woman from her home town.

‘They called her trash, but to me she was absolutely beautiful,’ Dolly said.

;She wore colorful patchwork skirts and pretty blouses and showed a little cleavage and had red nails and piled-up blond hair and red lipstick and high heels. She was the prettiest thing I’d ever seen.

‘When everybody would say, “Oh, she’s just trash,” I’d say, “Well, trash is what I’m going to grow up to be.” And I guess my look is glamorous trash!’
