John Barrowman’s husband Scott Gill blasts ‘vicious attacks from trolls’ as he talks ‘challenging times’ amid allegations
John Barrowman’s husband Scott Gill says the Doctor Who star has been targeted by ‘vicious trolls’ online amid allegations about his behaviour on set when he worked on sci-fi series Torchwood.
It comes after the actor returned to social media to thank fans for their support in the wake of the claims.
Scott, who married John in 2013 following their civil partnership in 2006, confessed on Instagram that it has been a ‘challenging’ time for the couple and praised people who have reached out.
He also thanked John’s Torchwood co-star Gareth David-Lloyd for being the ‘hero of the story’ and speaking out in defence of his friend.
Architect Scott wrote: ‘It’s been a “challenging” 3 weeks for both of us, watching @JohnScotBarrowman get hounded in the press & viciously attacked by trolls, but mostly it’s been amazing how many wonderful people have rallied around in support.
‘To all of you who have sent us lovely messages – THANK YOU!
‘A special shout out goes to the true hero of the story: Gareth David-Lloyd @Pancheers who selflessly ran into the burning building to save his buddy @johnscotbarrowman. Gareth – You’ll get a big kiss from me too when I see you!’
After John, 54, previously apologised for ‘tomfoolery’ while filming, Gareth David-Lloyd shared his experiences of working with the star.
In a statement shared with Metro.co.uk the actor, who played Ianto Jones on the BBC series, said John’s actions on set ‘were always meant to entertain’.
He went on: ‘The John I knew on set would have never behaved in a way he thought was affecting someone negatively. From what I know of him that is not his nature.
‘He was a whirlwind of positive energy, always very generous, kind and a wonderfully supportive lead actor to have at the helm of the show.’
Speaking out for the first time following reports his future as a judge on Dancing On Ice is uncertain, John said: ‘I just want to say thank you very much to all of my fan family and to everybody who has reached out with countless messages of support over the last few weeks.
‘It has meant such a great deal to me and has really touched me to know that people are supporting me and standing by me and sending their love, appreciation and kind words.
‘Hopefully, we will all be together sometime soon and I look forward to it. Much love and thank you.’
