Line of Duty star Tony Pitts didn’t see the divisive series six finale because he finds it difficult to watch things he has appeared in.

The actor played corrupt copper DCS Lester Hargreaves in the BBC crime drama, who met a grisly end in series five when he was shot by DS John Corbett (Stephen Graham).

The final episode of series six proved to be controversial as the elusive ‘H’, believed to be a police officer at the head of the Organised Crime Group, was revealed to be DS Ian Buckells (Nigel Boyle) which was a curveball, to put it mildly.

Asked by Metro.co.uk if he was among the 15.24million people who tuned in to the most watched drama of the 21st century, the actor confessed he had decided to swerve it.

‘No, I never watch anything that I’m in,’ he replied simply.

The Giri/Haji star will most likely be listening back to his podcast Three Little Words which launches its third series next week.

Past guests have included the likes of Paddy Considine, Robbie Williams and Corinne Bailey Rae, and coming up they have the pleasure of sitting down with TV presenter Alan Carr to hear his words.

Alongside co-host and BFF John Bishop, the pair speak to celebrity guests about three words – and a mystery fourth word – that means something to them.

The screenwriter feels the podcast is for anyone and everyone who is interested in delving into the lives of others.

‘You get perspective. It’s like reading a book, you can get somebody’s life and get their take on life,’ he told us.

‘At the risk of sounding a bit of a knob, it’s a real privilege. It’s for anybody who is interested in getting another perspective on life, but I don’t think there’s a natural demographic. It can apply to anybody.’

John agreed, and praised the show’s ‘inclusive’ feel: ‘I’ve had loads of people, who are not your traditional podcast listeners, who have enjoyed it because there’s a structure to the show. Every word means something to somebody, so you’re interested in what the other person has got to say.

‘I enjoy listening to podcasts like anyone else, but at times you can feel quite excluded because there are showbiz mates talking to showbiz mates about showbiz. Like, what’s all that about?

‘This is a journey into somebody’s life using three words as the access point. I’ve massively enjoyed it.’

‘People are always more if you know what I mean,’ Tony added, ‘if you have a preconceived idea about somebody they invariably prove to be more than you thought.’

Series three of Three Little Words with John Bishop & Tony Pitts launches June 11 on Amazon Music.
