British racing car driver and younger brother of Spice Girl Mel C, Paul O’Neill, has shared the time he refused a selfie with David Beckham.

On tonight’s The One Show, Paul revealed that he became friendly with David when the two of them joined a Spice Girl tour when Paul was 16.

Fast forward years later, the duo crossed paths again while doing a job for a British racing team.

‘I hadn’t seen him for years and he was on a job for McLaren that I was on and I didn’t go see him because I know you get busy when you’re a proper celebrity,’ he explained.

While Paul was busy working though, it was David who eventually went up to him.

The 41-year-old was stoked that David had recognised him all of those years later, but not stoked enough to get a photo.

‘He came over, he was the nicest guy, he said let’s get a selfie and send it to your Mel and I was like “mate, I ain’t got no time for that”,’ Paul said.

‘He got pied.’

This revelation was met with laughs from hosts Angela Scanlon and Jermaine Jenas, who couldn’t believe it.

Paul also opened up on how he struggled when his sister skyrocketed to fame as part of the Spice Girls.

He explained that her success came at a ‘funny age’, as he was only 16.

‘I’m not going to say it was terribly difficult but, emotionally, it was quite hard,’ the racing car driver said.

‘I left college in the end because it was, it wasn’t bullying, but people taking the mjickey all of the time so I just got a normal job and tried to make my way forward.

‘My sister helped me out massively.’

The One Show airs 7pm weekdays on BBC.
