Nintendo Switch Pro pre-orders go live this Friday claims retail leak
Another rumour claims that Nintendo is set to reveal the new, more powerful version of the Switch this week – and put it up for pre-order.
At this point the most surprising thing Nintendo could do for E3 this month is not announce the Switch Pro – the fan name for the more powerful version of the Switch that has been rumoured for years and is now widely expected to be announced this month.
More specifically, recent rumours suggested the console would be announced ‘ahead’ of E3, which is set to begin next weekend. And now today a new rumour claims that retailer pre-orders for the new console will begin this Friday, June 4 at midnight CST (so 6am on Saturday in the UK).
The information from Centro LEAKS, who usually deal with Pokémon rumours, say the date came from a ‘non-US listing from a US retailer’, which implies Amazon – who have already been involved in one Switch Pro related leak this week.
The information comes from a screenshot of the retailer’s internal system, showing a new Switch (no specific name is mentioned) that will go live ‘around midnight’.
There’s also a second listing, which the source thinks is a placeholder, for June 30, but it is less specific and doesn’t have a time associated with it.
Centro LEAKS claims they have ‘verified’ the screenshot but obviously it could easily be faked, although the fact that it matches up with the rumour of a pre-E3 reveal is intriguing.
Although it’s likely the two will be on the same day, the retailer listing doesn’t mean the announcement will also be Friday and a separate rumour, from XboxEra co-founder Nick Baker, claims a Nintendo Direct is scheduled for this Thursday.
He suggests that the Direct has already been delayed at least once before though and could be again.
The original version of the Switch was also revealed via a short pre-recorded trailer (which you can see below) and since that obviously went well it wouldn’t be at all surprising if Nintendo went a similar route with its successor.
