Pickup Basketball Legend Myles Garrett Calls It a Day on His Hooping Career, Says It’s a ‘Michael Jordan Retirement’

One might associate Myles Garrett as being a beast of a player for the Cleveland Browns defense. But there’s another side of Garrett that some of you might not be aware of. He’s a pickup basketball legend.

Posting videos of his workouts on social media, over the offseason, the Browns defensive end has been entertaining his fans with some fresh pickup basketball content.

Standing at 6’4″ and weighing over 270 lbs, Garrett is built like a tank. And in his basketball videos he sure does make use of his immense body frame.

Dunking, posterizing his opponents, and even sinking threes from the corners, Garrett has built himself quite a reputation as a hooper. But in typical Michael Jordan fashion, Garrett decided to call a day on his basketball career.

Myles Garrett replicates sensational Jordan hiatus

Talking to the media, the 2020 All-Pro said that his hiatus is set to be temporary.

“I feel like it’s more of like a (Michael) Jordan retirement,” Garrett said with a smirk on his face. “I went to baseball for a second, slash, I went to basketball for a second. Now I’ve got to go back to what I’m good at, what I usually do, playing football.”

The defensive end though continued playing along and said that come next season one could expect him to pursue his hooping dreams once again.

“Next season, you never know. I might go back to basketball, I might go play baseball, see if I can get on a team. There’s more on the horizon but I’ve got to get back to what my main focus is.”

Browns Head Coach Kevin Stefanski who was also in attendance, confirmed Garrett’s retirement. “He’s retired,” Stefanski said. “He’s done.”

The defensive end struggled with COVID-19 last season. Even after recovering, he had lingering side effects in respect to his lungs. But thankfully for Garrett, those side effects seem to have finally tapered off.

“The best I have since last year before COVID… It’s a wonderful feeling,” he added.

With Garrett now set to be back to his very best, might 2021 be the season he breaks the monopoly held by Aaron Donald over the NFL Defensive Player of the Year Award?
