Sex Education series three is on its way and fans are dying to see the gang back on screens.

We’ve had plenty of hints about what’s coming our way from the cast, with our favourites all set to return for round three.

Otis Milburn (Asa Butterfield), Eric Effiong (Ncuti Gatwa), and Maeve Wiley (Emma Mackey) are all set to grace our screens once more, alongside the queen herself, Dr Jean Milburn (Gillian Anderson).

However, while filming appears to have wrapped, we’ve still got a while to wait to find out what happened after that frankly infuriating end to series two (nope, we’re still not over it).

In all honesty, we can’t wait that long – so here’s what the glimpses into production have told us so far.

What’s happened so far with the Sex Education series 3 production?

Production officially began last year amid the coronavirus pandemic, with the cast sharing a string of clips to get us hyped (not that we needed the extra push).

Queen Gillian was seen preparing herself to get back in character, while Asa waved goodbye to his cats as he headed off to film.

Chris Jenks, who stars as Steve Morley,  was dragged out of his peaceful bath (complete with cucumber slices on the eyes) to pack his bag for work – which had the Sex Education season two logo on it, until he slapped a ‘3’ sticker on top.

Sex Education has become one of Netflix’s most popular shows, and it was confirmed that a third season had been commissioned in February last year.

Girls star Jemima Kirke is thought to have landed a role as Moordale’s new headteacher, seeing her take over from Mr Groff (Alistair Petrie).

A source told The Sun: ‘She will prove to be a formidable figure and add to a cast already filled with strong female roles.’

However, officially her role has been kept very much under wraps.

Consider us intrigued.

Maeve actress Emma calmed everyone’s fears by confirming that there is in fact still ‘hugging and making out’ despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The rules on set got strict amid the virus, but Emma revealed that the intimate scenes are still very much happening.

‘We’re all still, like, hugging and making out… and doing intimate scenes,’ she told PORTER.

Asa and Ncuti were spotted back on their bikes and it was like we were never away.

Otis is clearly trying out some new styles, as Asa was spotted sporting a moustache as he happily chatted away to his pal.

Elsewhere, Connor Swindells (Adam Groff) was seen giving the camera a cheeky wave as he chatted away to crew members, with Asa getting a touch-up on his makeup.

Posting some snaps of the actors waiting on set, Tanya Reynolds – who plays the kooky Lily – shared the love for her co-stars.

Ncuti could be seen hard at work learning lines, while Patricia Allison, who plays Ola Nyman, took a well-earned break.

The cast opened up about the tone change in series three, and we have no idea what to think.

Kedar Williams-Stirling (Jackson) gave quite the hint about what to expect, saying: ‘There’s two new characters this time. I feel like it’s going to be different because we also shot it in a different season. Normally we shoot in summer but because of Covid we had to shoot it in the winter,’ Kedar said.

‘There’s a whole storyline that happens where just the aesthetic of the whole thing changes. So without giving too much away, it’s definitely a different tone this year and it’s going to be exciting to see on screen.’

Tanya added: ‘We’re not allowed to say anything but there are new scandals and I can’t wait to see how people react to some things. I think as Lily gets older she’s definitely going to become a Greta Thunberg type.’

We definitely see it.

Costume designer Rosa Dias has revealed that Dr Jean stays true to her amazing style after the surprise revelation that she’s pregnant.

‘I didn’t want her to suddenly start wearing things that weren’t her. There’s this notion that when women fall pregnant, suddenly they just start wearing comfortable clothes and they lose their style and become sort of all mumsy,’ she told Metro.co.uk.

‘There’s a real thing about that in terms of when people get pregnant and then after they’ve had babies. And I’m like no, that doesn’t have to happen. It really doesn’t.’

When it came to Jean, who ‘needed to look pregnant and very pregnant at one point’, it was essential that she ‘still retain her style and her character, because the character’s very strong’.

As if the series two ending wasn’t enough, we’ve got quite the shocker in store for series three too.

‘Whatever happens in four, if it happens, wow – the writers have got a challenge. They’ve got a massive challenge on their hands,’ Rosa admitted.

‘It will be really interesting to see if they do do four, what they’re going to do. It’s massive.’

While the cast and crew did their utmost to make things feel normal amid the Covid-19 pandemic, Eric star Ncuti has revealed the new episodes still have an ‘individual’ feel about them.

Teasing a fresh dynamic, Eric star Ncuti Gatwa opened up about how the new scenes were filmed.

‘Everyone was so individual this season,’ he told cast member Aimee Lou Wood on Bafta’s Instagram page ahead of this year’s TV awards.

‘We were so out of sequence. I’m very much looking forward to seeing [it]… I’ve only read everyone else’s storylines.

‘For me, that’s always the most exciting part of a production, is when you can look at the end product and look at everyone else’s storylines.’

Speaking about his favourite scenes to film, Ncuti added: ‘I think any time you see Eric with his family or in his culture is always nice. It’s always nice to be on set when the majority of people here are black.

‘It feels nice because I don’t feel like a minority and just to be occupying that space as Black actors on a big platform on a Netflix show, those are the scenes that I love as well. A lot.’

There still looks to be a long wait until we find out what happened after that brutal cliffhanger ending.

Will Maeve and Otis ever be a thing? We’re not sure, but what we do know is that the actors will be on top form and that Gillian will always to ruin our lives in the best possible way as Jean.

Long may it continue! And roll on to series three.

Sex Education series three does not yet have a release date.
