Simon Cowell made a long-awaited return to America’s Got Talent on Tuesday night, and raised eyebrows everywhere by rocking up to the studio in a pair of shorts.
The judge’s casual appearance was mocked by Simon’s co-stars and fans, as the music mogul stepped on stage for the first time after suffering a broken back last year.
Terry Crews introduced the judges Howie Mandel, Heidi Klum and Sofia Vergara, before announcing Simon’s return.
‘And now, I am proud to announce the triumphant return of the Simon Cowell,’ he said.
Simon’s outfit left Sofia and Heidi looking surprised, with Heidi asking: ‘Are we missing something here? Did you just come back from holiday, or what?’
‘Is it casual Friday?’ Sofia joked.
‘No it’s not casual Friday. It’s sensible Sunday,’ Simon said.
It didn’t end there either, with Howie getting up on stage with Simon and revealing that he too had a pair of the white shorts on.
It turns out the judges weren’t the only ones surprised by the look.
People reacted to his look on social media, with one writing: ‘Can you tell Simon socks, shoes and shorts … not so much!!’
‘That’s different of Simon lol,’ one added.’
Another said: ‘Simon Cowell wearing shorts is wigging me out way too f***** much right now. It’s like seeing the pope in a tank top. Not saying Simon Cowell is the pope, but that would make you stop and say ‘wtf? is that the pope in a ‘Saturday is for the boys’ tank?”
Simon returned to filming America’s Got Talent last month after breaking his back in August 2020.
Meanwhile, Simon Cowell is said to be working on creating a new talent show to rival his own series Britain’s Got Talent.
The 61-year-old is hoping his upcoming project will air on another network to go head-to-head with the ITV programme or that it will be made available on streaming giant Netflix, according to reports.
America’s Got Talent airs on NBC in the US.
