Stranger Things season 4 release date update: David Harbour lets slip when Hopper scenes wrap

David Harbour has let slip a major Stranger Things season four filming update, revealing that he’s almost done filming Hopper scenes.

Big news!

The actor, whose character was thought to be dead at the end of season three, before a shock reveal in a season four trailer showed him to be very much alive, revealed he’s ‘almost done’ with filming.

‘I’ve got one more little stint, we should be done in like August,’ the 46-year-old said.

Surely we can’t be too far away from the show wrapping fully in that case? And then a release date confirmation? We can dream!

David also opened up about how he asked the show’s creators, the Duffer Brothers, to ensure his character looked different from his Black Widow character Red Guardian, after both spent a fair bit of their time in Russian prisons.

‘It’s funny, we finished [Stranger Things season three] I guess it was March of 2019, right?’ he added on Jimmy Kimmel Live. ‘And then it came out right before the pandemic and I knew that I was going to be in this Russian prison. And then literally a month later I got a call from Marvel that they wanted me to play a guy who starts out in a Russian prison.’

Talk about a specific type-cast.

David is set to make his return as Hopper in season four of Stranger Things alongside Millie Bobby Brown (Eleven), Finn Wolfhard (Mike Wheeler), Noah Schnapp (Will Byers), Gaten Matarazzo (Dustin Henderson), and Caleb McLaughlin (Lucas Sinclair).

We were recently blessed with a completely chilling teaser, which brought us back to the Rainbow Room, where Eleven was experimented on and raised.

Meanwhile, recent set photos have sparked fears of a huge death.

The images show cast and crew members gathered at the cemetery, and it could spell bad news for the residents of Hawkins.

The pictures were posted by Stranger Things news account @StrangerNews11, hinting at the ending of the season by adding the caption: ‘Something “massive” is happening at Hawkins Cemetery. No new photos, could be one of the last scenes of the season.’

While the photos don’t provide much in the way of context, it’s only natural that viewers have begun speculating about a tragic end for one of the characters.

Here’s hoping we’re all sorely mistaken, otherwise we’re certain hearts are about to break.

Stranger Things season one to three are available to stream on Netflix.
