Top Three Candidates To Take Over Boston Celtics Head Coaching Vacancy
The Boston Celtics had one of the most disappointing seasons in the NBA in the 2020-21 season. Despite having a stacked team with players like Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown and Kemba Walker, the Celtics only finished as the seventh seed in the Eastern Conference.
Much of it came down to injuries and COVID-19. Ravaged due to the health and safety protocols, the Celtics missed many of their stars for significant amount of time this season. The Celtics crashed out of the first round yesterday as the Nets steamrolled past them.

Given the torrid season they had, the 17-time NBA champions have already started to make some pretty bold decisions. After serving as the executive for the Celtics for 18 long years, Danny Ainge has finally retired from the sport.
Head coach Brad Stevens has taken up Ainge’s role instead and has vacated his position as the head-coach of the ball club. Despite leading the team to 3 Conference Finals appearances, Stevens’ coaching was subject to criticism off late. The Celtics will hope that their new hiring will take them across the hump.
Three probable names to become the head coach for the Boston Celtics
Given that the head coach position is vacant for the Celtics, the team is in the market to search a new head coach. While some top coaches like Brett Brown and Alvin Gentry are available, the Celtics have shortlisted two candidates for their head coach position.
According to NBA insider Chris Haynes, the Celtics are looking at former Atlanta Hawks’ head coach Lloyd Pierce and Lakers’ assistant head coach Jason Kidd as the prime candidates for the job. Apart from that Becky Hammon is an outside contender for the job.

Both Pierce and Kidd have their fair share of experience in the NBA. While the 45-year-old coached the Atlanta Hawks, J. Kidd was the coach for the 2012 super team Nets with Kevin Garnett and Paul Pierce.
Both the candidates haven’t had the best of records by any means. While Pierce was phenomenal in developing players like John Collins and Trae Young, he couldn’t lead his team to many victories. His torrid start to this season might raise some eyebrows.
Kidd meanwhile had a decent time as a head coach. Coaching the Nets and the Bucks, J. Kidd has won 49.1% of his games he coached. The Celtics will hope that their new hire can figure out a system to play Jaylen Brown and Jayson Tatum together.
