“We’d Make Them Look Good”- Jon Moxley Reveals How The Shield Succeeded in the WWE Locker Room
Jon Moxley is one of the best wrestlers in the world right now and his reign as AEW World Champion proved that. However, fans haven’t forgotten his time in WWE and although he has overshadowed it with the AEW run, Dean Ambrose is still a name that rings with fond nostalgia.
Moxley isn’t a man who forgets where he came from, and is one of the only remnants of a WWE era before NXT. He is a living representation of a wrestler who made it to the main roster back when the pickings were a lot harder.
“It was a lot harder to get called up,” Moxley recalled, speaking to Metro. ‘You always have this fear that you’ve never going to get called up, so this adds a lot of stress. You can’t just relax. Every day that passes down there before you get called up, you’re like, “Is this ever gonna happen? Am I gonna get fired today?”
Jon Moxley revealed how The Shield rose to the rop
Moxley recalled the atmosphere more than anything and explained how it was a lot harder to make the jump from FCW to the big leagues in Raw or SmackDown. It was a challenge in itself to fit in with the rest of the star studded locker room.
However, he mentioned how when the stars knew what they were all apart and how they all ‘rolled’, everyone wanted to work with them.
‘‘Very quickly, people started wanting to work with us because we were having good-ass matches. All of a sudden, all the top guys were wanting to get in six-mans with us because we were having good matches,” he said.
“And we’d make them look good! Me and Seth (Rollins) would bump our asses off for these dudes, you know? It’s just indicative of – we were right. We turned out to be everything we said we were gonna be and we weren’t full of it,” Moxley concluded.
The Shield was by far one of the most successful teams WWE has ever created. All three of the members went on to become world Champions and are now pillars of the wrestling industry. In terms of relevance, the three have stayed on top of the game for years and have undoubtedly reached and even exceeded their potentials.
