Bridgerton season 2: Phoebe Dynevor says Duke of Hastings will be ‘referred to a lot’ despite Regé-Jean Page’s exit
Bridgerton star Phoebe Dynevor has revealed that the Duke of Hastings will still be ‘referred to a lot’ in season two of the Netflix drama, despite her co-star Regé-Jean Page’s exit.
In April this year, it was announced Regé-Jean would not be returning to Bridgerton after leaving fans swooning over his depiction of the duke Simon Bassett opposite Phoebe’s Daphne Bridgerton.
The news may not have come as too much of a surprise to those who have read the books, as they will have already been aware that the second instalment will place a greater focus on the love story of Daphne’s older brother Anthony, played by Jonathan Bailey.
During a recent interview, Phoebe, who was recently spotted on set of the Regency-era tale, explained how the Duke of Hastings will still play a role in the show despite the actor’s departure.
Speaking to The Wrap, the actor said: ‘I think he’ll definitely be referred to a lot,’ adding that she believes ‘we’ll see the baby’ – after Daphne gave birth to her and Simon’s son at the end of season one.
‘And we’ll just focus more on her relationship with the Bridgerton Family,’ she added, as Daphne is one of eight children in the respectable Bridgerton clan.
Phoebe said that in her opinion, the ‘joy’ of Bridgerton over the course of several seasons will be watching the respective stories of the Bridgerton children unfold.
‘I think every season is just going to be really different and magical in its own way,’ she said.
‘There’s not many TV series that do that, that focus on different characters every season. But I think every season is going to have its own magic, which is great.’
Phoebe also discussed what she and Regé-Jean made of the fanfare surrounding Bridgerton, which they both found ‘unexpected’.
In season two of Bridgerton, Anthony will meet new love interest Kate Sharma (Simone Ashley), who will put him through his paces following his previous heartbreak from his relationship with opera singer Siena Rosso (Sabrina Bartlett).
It was recently announced that Rupert Evans has been cast as the late patriarch of the Bridgerton family, as the second season delves into the past.
The first season of Bridgerton is available to watch on Netflix.
