Ex-Mercedes Director Explains Why Michael Schumacher Would’ve Been ‘Perfect’ F1 Boss
Back in late 2013, so many things changed for the Mercedes team in the blink of an eye. Michael Schumacher was involved in a skiing accident, from which he is still recovering. He definitely built the foundations of the outfit, from which Lewis Hamilton took the baton carried forward to rich success.
It wasn’t just his sheer speed that caught the eye of those who worked with him. It was also his personality that could have guaranteed him success even as an F1 team boss, according to a person who worked closely with him.
Recently, Mercedes boss Norbert Haug made the following suggestion and said, “He would have made the perfect top manager. In his personal development, Michael set no slower pace than on the race track. He spoke polished English, was perfectly fit, smart and always full of energy. He also always wanted to get to the bottom of everything.” (Quotes translated from German using Google)
What else did he say about Michael Schumacher?
Before Hamilton shattered all of his records, Schumacher boasted of impressive statistics. Namely, seven world championship titles, 91 victories, 155 podiums, 68 pole positions, 77 fastest race laps. It is also noteworthy that the German legend is a meticulous worker in the car, and Haug swears that he is the same outside it.
According to the ex Mercedes sporting director, Schumi always got along well with mechanics and team members. This included motivating them and getting to know them on a personal level. It is largely because of this that Haug firmly believes that Michael Schumacher would have been an excellent man on the pit wall.
Of course, he remained coy on whether Schumi should lead Mercedes, Ferrari, or a brand new team. Sadly, Fate played its card and denied fans from seeing the Red Baron in the Formula One arena for good. For now, he and his family are satisfied with living the quiet life, and now the next generation of Schumachers is in the sport.
