French Open 2021 Organizers Remove Players From the Draw After They Test Positive for COVID-19

As players begin to settle in the French capital, the effects of the global pandemic continue to loom around the French Open 2021. Organizers and officials have and continue to work things according to the best of their abilities surrounding everyone’s interests. 

However, there has been a case at the French Open 2021 in which a men’s doubles pairing has tested positive for the ongoing COVID-19. Without wasting much time, officials have taken a call and removed the players from the doubles event.

The players’ names are not known but Mate Pavic and Nikola Mektic as well as Spanish duo Feliciano Lopez and Jaume Munar have been removed from the order of play on Thursday.

In the statement issued, organizers stated, “The Roland-Garros tournament organizers confirm that two players from the men’s doubles draw, on the same team, have tested positive for Covid-19. In line with the tournament’s public health and safety protocol, the pair has been removed from the draw, which commenced yesterday, and the two players placed in quarantine.”

Organizers take necessary measures to ensure the smooth functioning of the French Open 2021

Officials have taken the necessary measures and placed them under quarantine. However, due to their removal, another pair will replace the players that tested positive. On the other hand, the Spanish pair of Pedro Martinez and Pablo Andujar has moved into the following round.

In the statement, the points revealed were, “They will be replaced by the first team on the alternate list. The health of all tournament players and that of their teams is continuously monitored through very regular testing, and they live and train in socially distanced bubbles.”

In other news at the French Open 2021, Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Novak Djokovic will be in action on the same day for the first time. The big three have been grouped in the same half and it will certainly be interesting to see how things turn up on their side of the draw.
