Is Vince McMahon Trying to Sell WWE? Potential Reason for the Shocking Release of WWE Superstars
Vince McMahon’ WWE sent a shockwave throughout the world of professional wrestling with the series of releases. These weren’t just any releases, but included some top names from their roster. In fact, most of them were a regular feature on WWE TV. Some as recent as on Raw and SmackDown in the last week.
With WWE making these significant releases, one leads to wonder why they’re doing it. Speculations and rumors indicate the company is preparing to sell off.
WWE no longer to be a Vince McMahon company?
Former WWE Writer Dave Schilling took to Twitter to react on the shocking releases of Braun Strowman, Aleister Black, Ruby Riott, and more. Schilling speculated WWE is planning a sale.
Schilling backed it up saying the reason WWE released these superstars, including Braun Strowman is because they want to maximize their profits before selling.
You don’t cut talent assets on this level unless you are trying to maximize profits before a sale.

However, while Schilling speculates a potential sale of WWE, Wrestling Researcher Brandon Thurston of Wrestlenomics doesn’t believe the same. In fact, he put ahead some interesting points on why it’s not a preparation to sell, but rather huge cleanings and changes under new leadership.

During an appearance on The Colin Cowherd Podcast, WWE President Nick Khan had indicated WWE Chairman Vince McMahon has no interest in selling the company. Thurston added these latest lay-offs, releases, and restructuring in the company is more of Nick Khan and Kristina Salen reversing decisions of former top executives.
Foreboding that WWE is preparing to sell is the stuff of cynical wrestling fan fatalism. New leadership came on in August and is still in Year 1. I would be shocked if WWE sells in Vince’s lifetime. 1) Nick Khan indicated to Cowherd that Vince has no intention to sell.

Brandon Thurston further added WWE had way more talent on its roster than it ever needed. However, new leadership of Nick Khan and Kristina Salen may not see this as a cost-effective measure for the company.
He concluded saying the talent hoarding and other measures like putting NXT head-to-head with AEW is now being looked at as costly and ineffective. And hence, they’re now reversing the damage caused.
Either way, from wrestling fans to fellow wrestlers – these releases left everyone heartbroken. We’re sure all the released talent will bounce back strong. As far as why WWE did it is concerned, guess we’ll have to wait and see what they have in store.
