Kansas City Chiefs QB Patrick Mahomes Provides Major Update on His Toe Injury

Super Bowl LV was nothing less than a nightmare for the Kansas City Chiefs. Steamrolled by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 31-9, the defending champs saw their star QB Patrick Mahomes scamper all over the pitch being run down by the Bucs defense.

Mahomes ran a record 497 yards before throwing the ball or being sacked by the Bucs defense. The most scramble yards by any quarterback in a game since since 2016.

And the quarterback did all that with an injury to his big toe. One that required him to undergo surgery over the offseason.

Undergoing rehab since then, there was no definitive timeline as to when he would return. But now the quarterback has spoken out about the recovery process has been coming along.

Patrick Mahomes ready to let it rip once again

Talking to the media, Mahomes was asked how the big toe of his left foot was coming along. While the quarterback was seen being involved in offseason activities, not much news was made available about his recovery.

But according to Mahomes, he’s ready to go all out on the football field one again. “If there was a game, I’d be able to play in it, I think,” he said.

The 2018 NFL MVP though said that he’s not completely done with the rehab process just yet. With some strengthening and conditioning work still on the cards, the QB is still glad to be back on the field earlier than expected.

“At the end of the day, there’s still stuff I’m going to have to work through. I’m going to continue to rehab and continue to keep strengthening that stuff. But it’s good to be able to get out there a little bit earlier than the schedule had me and be able to get some work in.”

The injury saw the quarterback have to put on a walking boot right after surgery. He was expected to be fine to take to the field once again for the team’s training camp scheduled for next week.

While he might not be a 100% just yet, it seems the quarterback is inching closer towards it with each passing day.
