Nintendo Switch Pro listed by French retailer for £340
As far as Nintendo is concerned there is no new Switch console, but that doesn’t explain why a French store seems to have a listing for one.
The mystery of the Switch Pro is unravelling in a very Nintendo-esque way. Multiple sources have, for months, insisted that the new, more powerful version of the Switch exists and that it will be released this autumn.
The most recent rumours have suggested that the new console will be unveiled before Nintendo’s E3 event on Tuesday, June 15 – so literally any day now – and yet according to Nintendo they have no plans to unveil anything but games.
It’s been widely rumoured that the Switch Pro will be more expensive than the current model, which costs £279 in the UK, but no-one has ever really said how much more.
However, French source Nintend’Alerts claims to have proof that the new console is already in the database of retailer Boulanger, who lists it for €399.
€399 is a little over £340 but European prices tend to be roughly the same number value so the console could end up being as much as £399 in the UK.
As believable as the screenshots in the tweet seem to be it is curious that the console is actually referred to as the Switch Pro, which is a fan-invented name, since nobody really knows what it’s called.
It is a perfectly logical name, which is why it caught on, but its use could point to this being a fake – or whoever inputted the details basing them purely on existing rumours.
