Toto Wolff Quotes Baseball Legend Babe Ruth to Demonstrate Mercedes’ Relentless F1 Drive
Mercedes have been the most dominant team on the Formula One grid ever since 2014, the beginning of the turbo-hybrid era. Since the Silver Arrows have won seven world titles and seven driver’s titles, courtesy of Lewis Hamilton and Nico Rosberg. However, team principal Toto Wolff states that the past is history and should focus on the future.
The Austrian team boss uses the mentality that he read about, American baseball player, George Herman “Babe” Ruth Jr. Babe Ruth was once said, “Yesterday’s home run doesn’t win you today’s game.”

As quoted from GPFans, Wolff said, “It is quite interesting. It is something that I read from a famous baseball coach: ‘Yesterday’s home run doesn’t win you today’s game’. That is very much true.”
“We are trying with simple actions to forget about the success of the past few years. Every point goes to zero and you can build upon the organisation but as everything starts from new, you have to earn your laurels again.”
“We do this by basically eliminating all relics of the past, all trophies, everything that shows us that we have won seven consecutive championships because you cannot rely on that,” Wolff concluded.

Can the Silver Arrows bounce back in Baku?
The Brackley-based squad had a disastrous weekend at the recent Monaco Grand Prix. It was the first time this season, that none of the drivers made it onto the podium or even into the top five of a race.
During the qualifying rounds of the race, Hamilton only managed to secure a seventh-place start, while his teammate, Valtteri Bottas was starting in third. However, things went bad to worse for the Finn, as a botched pit stop made him retire from the race. Hamilton on the other hand to settle for 7th place finish, losing out on major points.
With the sixth round of the championship just coming up in a few days, the Silver Arrows are hoping to redeem themselves by winning the Azerbaijan Grand Prix, this coming weekend. Do you think they have learned from their mistakes at Monte Carlo and achieve a good result in the streets of Baku? Let us know in the comments below.
